NAHT Cumbria Branch seeks to represent Cumbria’s school leaders at the highest level of government. In April 2017, Clem Coady met with leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn to question him on a range of education policy matters, including school funding. In March 2017, Graham Frost met with Tim Farron, leader of the Liberal Democrats and Schools Minister, Nick Gibb to discuss the school funding crisis. We have also written to the Prime Minister to request a meeting for further discussion on school funding.
At NAHT Cumbria Branch we believe that local MPs should work with school leaders and governors in order to represent schools and communities in their constituencies.
Meetings have taken place with the following (alphabetical by surname):
- Tim Farron (Westmorland and Lonsdale) – March 2017 (Westminster) and June 2016 (Kendal)
- Sue Hayman (Workington) – June 2017, March 2017 (Westminster), July 2016
- Jamie Reed (Copeland) – June 2016
